The Portrait 
Sisters posing side by side in satin dresses
childish faces aglow with confidence.
Their reality is here and now,
future still a far away dream
unformed as background shadows.
Blond hair darkens, glow diminishes,
life paints new lines on human canvases,
love's boundaries stretch with time and distance
but siblings remain united
as in that portrait on the wall.

Are they portraits of someone you know? Nieces? Granddaughters?

Thanks for your comments Frances. I was just remembering the cold. It's shirt and open jacket weather. There's been a couple snows but nothing that lasts.
